The Position
What are we looking for and why you could be a good fit
Fangamer is committed to growing our in-house technology team because it allows us the customization we need to support our departments, and because it aligns with our philosophy of keeping things in house and as employee focused as possible. We have made great strides toward our tech goals, but still have a lot of work ahead of us. You would be stepping into a very active point in the tech timeline, and so we are looking for people open to lots of collaboration and solution seeking, and of course a lot of actual code work!
The position will involve working closely with our 2 person Seattle development team on a variety of different internal systems. This could range from Shopify API integrations, spinning off functions in our Rails code base into standalone modules (not required to be Rails), data structuring and architecting, internal facing UI work, building reporting tools, and maybe even some dev-ops work if that is your interest. There is plenty to do, so the best fit candidates will be those excited by the prospect of directly contributing to the code infrastructure of a growing company.
Responsibilities:
- Will work alongside our Senior Developer and tech team to create and re-work various internal systems and tools (currently done in Rails, but that is not a requirement)
- Rework existing functions/apps into their own modules
- Make new modules where needed functions do not exist
- Help to level-up our UI on internal systems
- Work with Shopify API as well as other different internal and external data sources and endpoints
- Possibility of dev-ops in collaboration with senior developer (Docker / Kubernetes)
- Coordinate/Communicate with our development team, tech manager, and stakeholders on work priorities and status updates
Required Skills
- 3+ years experience with modern tech stacks and development processes (Rails / MVC experience is a plus but not required).
- Similar experience working with external APIs and PostgresDB (or other relational DBs).
- Some experience with internally-facing user interfaces
Qualifications:
Helpful but not required
- Familiar with ecommerce needs (specifically Shopify, but any would be great)
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science
Personal characteristics
- We are a video game merch company, and are correspondingly quirky. Looking for someone that can fit in well with our culture (so liking video games is a huge plus!)
- Passionate about working with others to implement solutions and create tools and systems to the benefit of our employees.
- Someone that understands the value of communication and empathy. Our tech team is not large, so these traits will be required to successfully interface with the rest of the company.
AI Notice
Fangamer prohibits the use of GenAI / LLMs like ChatGPT for coding work, but also for basically anything we do. AI is becoming more and more ubiquitous in the tech industry, but we have judged that use to be detrimental to creative thought and productivity. We highly value the human aspects of problem solving, communication, and knowledge acquisition, and work best with like minded people.
Benefits:

- Blue Cross Blue Shield 'Gold' level plan
- Fangamer covers 100% of your monthly medical premium (after probationary period)

- Paid bereavement/paternity/maternity leave

When does the job start?
We're anticipating a lot of applicants, and sorting through them is a time-consuming process, so please give us a few weeks to get back to you for next steps in the interview process. Hoping to have the position filled by early July, with work starting as soon as the candidate is able to
Is relocation necessary?
Yes, this position requires you to work from Seattle, Washington. For salaried positions, we sometimes offer relocation expense reimbursement.
Do I have to be a Gamer?
Nope. A personal interest in gaming is a plus for any role at Fangamer, since our employees' preferences directly shape our company's products and partnerships – but many roles like this are filled by employees with little or no experience with video games or the gaming industry.

- A strong portfolio easily beats an impressive-sounding resume
- Give us an idea of who you are. We're curious about your interests, hobbies, aspirations, etc – even if they have nothing to do with gaming
